How Russia's Prison Siege Ended After Armed Prisoners Broke Out, Took Rostov Jail Guards Hostage
Russian authorities on June 16 said they brought a swift end to a siege at a detention centre in the southern Rostov region. Russia's special forces killed six jail inmates linked to the Islamic State, who took two guards hostage at a Rostov detention centre. The siege took place on June 16 at Detention Center 1 of the Rostov region, the prison service said. Russia’s state media said some of the men had been convicted of terrorism offences and were affiliated with the Islamic State.
