Three Lebanon Army Soldiers Killed, IDF Says 'Fighting Only Hezbollah, Probing Accidental Hit'
The Lebanese army said Thursday that three of its soldiers were killed by Israeli fire while carrying out a rescue operation in Yater area.
The Israeli military said it struck a building confirmed to have been used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon in the attack and that it was investigating whether "as a result of the strike, a number of soldiers of the Lebanese army were accidentally hit.
At least 11 Lebanese soldiers have been killed by Israeli fire since September 23, according to a tally of army announcements. Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin expressed "deep concern" over the strikes on the Lebanese army in a call with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the Middle East was on the brink of a full-scale war.
